New timeline in the Online Collection Wiedergutmachung

By Archivportal-D

We are pleased to present a new version of our timeline!

The Online Collection Wiedergutmachung not only aims to provide users with research tools for the Wiedergutmachung files, but also to give them an understanding of the complex history of Wiedergutmachung.

The new timeline in the “History and Stories” section visualizes the most important events and regulations relating to Wiedergutmachung from 1945 to the present day, arranged chronologically and embedded in the historical context. The timeline is intended not only to help researchers in their research on the history of Wiedergutmachung, but also to make it easier for users who have had little exposure to the topic to get started.

The events are divided into five topics: Compensation, Restitution, International issues, Soviet Occupation Zone/GDR, and Other events (“Other events” refers to contemporary history). You can filter by these categories and visualize the history of Wiedergutmachung with the respective focus. In addition, the navigation bar on the left-hand side allows you to jump to specific years. The new timeline still offers you the opportunity to view the original law gazettes for more in-depth information on specific topics. If you would like to learn more about individual events, links and/or images are usually available for further information. To contextualize the history of Wiedergutmachung, the Online Collection also offers a section on history. There, the history of Wiedergutmachung is outlined in more detail, divided into the topics mentioned above.

At present, the most important events in the history of Wiedergutmachung are available in the timeline. In the future, additional events and multimedia content such as videos and audio files will be added.
