Vorwort: Obwohl für sachsen-coburgische Lehensachen keine eigene Behörde, sondern die "Landesregierung als Lehenhof" zuständig war, bestand für diese Materie doch immer eine stabile Registratur, die der Bestandsbildung zugrundegelegt wurde. Bei der Auflösung der Landesregierung 1858 wurde ein Teil der Lehensregistratur an das damalige Haus- und Staatsarchiv (heute Bestand Landesarchiv), ein Teil an das damalige Justizkollegium und die Justizämter abgegeben. Diese Akten wurden in den Bestand zurückgeführt, sind aber im Repertorium unterschieden. Räumlich umfassen die Akten die Lehen im Fürstentum Sachsen-Coburg, wenige Lehen im Amt Saalfeld sowie Lehen in Franken und Thüringen, ferner Akten aus den Ämtern Königsberg und Sonnefeld, die 1826 an das Herzogtum Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha gelangten
The Bundeszentralkartei (BZK) is the central register of the federal government and federal states for completed compensation proceedings. When a claim is entered into the BZK, a number is assigned for unique identification. This BZK number refers to a compensation claim, not to a person. If a person has made several claims (e.g. for themselves and for relatives), each claim generally has its own BZK number. Often, the file number of the respective compensation authority is used as the BZK number.
This number is important for making an inquiry to the relevant archive.

In the sources, the persecuted person is sometimes referred to as ‘Geschädigter’ (aggrieved party) and the applicant as ‘Anspruchsberechtigter’(claimant).
