Vorwort: Eduard Bachmann (geb. 10. Januar 1874 in Hof a.d. Saale, gest. 17. September 1914 ebenda) war ein bayerischer Offizier, zuletzt im Range eines Hauptmanns. Er war Kompaniechef im 14. Bayerischen Infanterie-Regiment "Hartmann". Bachmann wurde bereits in den ersten Kriegswochen, am 25. August 1914, schwer verwundet. Im Zuge der heftigen Kämpfe von Nancy-Épinal erlitt er in der Gegend der Orte Hoeville und Serres einen Brusttreffer. Er erlag den Folgen am 17. September 1914 in Hof. Der Nachlass, der persönliche Briefe, Fotografien und Notizbücher enthält, wurde dem Kriegsarchiv 2015 von seinem Neffen übergeben.
